Change Just Some Moving Pieces ...

"Lawyers from Debevoise & Plimpton, Cravath Swaine & Moore, and Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison guided Verizon Communications Inc.’s $9.59 billion acquisition of rival telecommunication operator Frontier Communications Parent Inc." -  Bloomberg Law, September 5, 2024

Debevoise is representing Verizon and Cravath and Paul, Weiss Frontier.

M&A, which soured in the era of high interest rates, uncertainty and aggressive FTC Khan scrutiny of deals, could be in for a strong bounce-back.

Interest rates seem on their way down.

The projection of Democrats controlling Inside the Beltway for eight years of a Harris Administration can establish a new normalcy. Those in the prediction business can be taken seriously again.

And the new order of things can cave to Harris-Walz major donors like LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and oust Khan.

Meanwhile Wall Street law firms such as Paul, Weis and individual fundraisers such as its chair Brad Karp - in the front lines of supporting Harris-Walz - are positioned for unique access to the continuum of new or strengthened leadership inside the beltway and in the states. Note that the Harris campaign shared some of its bulging war chest with the election efforts of Democrats in other Congressional and state races.

Unlike so many sectors such as tech, public relations, management consulting, human resources, film production, graphic arts, content-creation and finance, practicing law in large law firms is in a growth profit mode.

That game, though, is 1) To get in 2) To keep moving up and 3) Even at the partner level not be forced out. About the latter, no, there is no employment security. One-time stars who ease up on performance are as likely to be "counseled out" as associates. In my coaching I guided some of them to fresh career paths.
